Summer Game Fest’s biggest announcement? A ‘Last of Us’ remake | MarketingwithAnoy

The last of Os del 1 coming. Again. Naughty Dog co-president Neil Druckmann announced the news today during the Summer Game Fest, the launch pad for this year’s pseudo-E3. The game takes the leap from its PlayStation 3 origins to a “complete remake” for PS5.

Unfortunately, Druckmann is a little late for the party. Sony leaked the news via PlayStation Direct prior to today’s unveiling.

There are leaks continually in Game. And for Naughty Dog, the leak lighting has turned on twice. Back in 2020, ahead of its long-awaited successor, The Last of Us Part II, leaks spread key information about the game, including important plot points.

What is particularly notable in this case is not the leak, but that the re-recording was still the biggest news of the event. Summer Game Fests otherwise tame kickoff shot through a number of different titles, including Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Gotham Knights, Aliens: Dark Descentand Stormgatea new game from earlier StarCraft 2 developers. Smaller titles, e.g. Neon whitegot release dates (June 16) and Coffee Stain Studio showed a new one Goat simulator. Compared to bombastic events from previous years, it was a strangely subdued showcase.

If it seems to be a little soon to redo The last of us– it’s not even a decade old – consider the timing. An HBO adaptation of the game is currently in the lead role Game of Thrones stars Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey. And according to Sony, its successor, The Last of Us Part II, has sold more than 10 million copies. Naughty Dog also has several plans to expand the franchise with a standalone multiplayer game – a task that requires the studio to grow “significantly” to handle it.

In any case, if you somehow missed the original game on PS3, or then again as a PS4 remaster, you get the chance to play a modernized version on PS5 on September 2nd. It’s also under development for PC, because you certainly have not seen the last of it.
