Amazon Prime Day officially launches on July 12 and runs until the 13th, but early deals are already pouring in across the retailer and its competitors. For example, several Google products are for sale at Amazon and retailers like Target, from Chromecast With Google TV to Nest Cams. Some items may get additional discounts on Prime Day itself, but these are still solid deals.
Check out our Amazon Prime Day coverage for more deals ahead of the big sale. Our Prime Day Shopping Tips will help you find out if a deal is worth your time and money.
Special offers for Gear readers: Get one 1-year subscription to WIRED for $ 5 ($ 25 off). This includes unlimited access to WIRED.com and our print magazine (if you will). Subscriptions help fund the work we do every day.
Offer on doorbell and security camera
Nest’s video doorbell is our second place and comes in second place after Arlo’s Essential, simply because it is more expensive. This deal matches the cheapest we’ve seen in the last few months. It is easy to mount and remove for charging (the battery lasts more than a month). The smart notifications that identify faces and packages are also accurate, but you’ll need a Nest Aware subscription ($ 6 a month). You can find this deal at Best buy as well.
Do you need an indoor security camera? This simple camera looks elegant, can be mounted and does not have a battery, which means you will have to plug it in. (On the plus side, you never have to charge it.) WIRED reviews editor Julian Chokkattu has had a point on his front door over the past year and has had a great experience with it, however a Nest Aware subscription expands your video history. This deal is not uncommon, but it is still good and it is also available at Target.
This security camera works just like the above indoor camera, except that it is battery powered and can withstand rain, wind and snow. It has a 130-degree field of view and 1080p video, as WIRED senior associate editor Adrienne So says, showed clear views of her driveway, front door and even most of her front yard. The battery should be charged after a little more than a month. This agreement is also available at Target. There is a two-pack bundle also for sale for $ 250 ($ 80 discount)or a fire-pack for $ 490 ($ 170 discount).
If you are planning to monitor a dark and sad area, this camera is functionally similar to the Nest Cam above, but does not run on a battery and it has two floodlights on each side. The lights can turn on automatically, as when the camera detects movement. You can also set a schedule or use your voice to turn them on. This agreement is also available at Target.
Offers on phone, laptop and speaker
We like the Google Pixel 6 Pro (9/10, WIRED recommends) because it has a spectacular camera system with a great 4x optical zoom camera, a sharp 120-Hz screen refresh rate with an AMOLED panel and lots of useful smart software features powered of Google’s Tensor Processor. Oh, and a battery that generally lasts a whole day. The phone has had its fair share of errors, but many of the issues have been fixed now. Just know that Pixel 7 Pro is coming towards the end of the year.
If you are looking for a new Android phone, most should go for the Pixel 6. This is a small deal, but it is an incredible value. You get a 90-Hz AMOLED screen, wireless charging, the same powerful Tensor processor and a great dual-camera system.
This is the first generation wireless charger from Google, not the newer, second generation version. It charges any device with wireless charging support, whether in landscape or portrait orientation. If you put a Pixel phone on it, you get a few extra perks, including ambient lighting that mimics the sunrise, a digital photo frame feature, and quick access to smart home controls. Read our guide to the best wireless chargers for more options.
Google’s Nest Audio (8/10, WIRED recommends) is one of our favorite smart speakers. This is the typical bargain price it drops to during major sales events. Nest Audio is the successor to the original Google Home from 2016, which offers deeper bass and louder sound for better streaming. Of course, it’s powered by Google Assistant, so you can ask it anything you want in the Google search bar. Pairing two together provides a solid stereo system. There is a physical switch to turn off the microphone, which we appreciate. This agreement is also available at Walmart.
Nest Mini is the cheaper, smaller and smaller version of Nest Audio. It does not sound very good, but it is a great little speaker for small areas in the home where you will use your voice to control your smart home devices. You can also wall mount it (as long as there is an electrical outlet nearby).
If you can do all your work outside of the Chrome browser, a Chromebook might be all you need. This Pixelbook Go is getting a little old, but it’s still one of our favorite Chromebooks and runs perfectly. The screen is crisp, the keyboard is nice, and this Core i5 model is very powerful for most people.
Smart Display and Router Offers
This router often drops to this price, but it fluctuates up to $ 169, so this is still a solid deal. Nest Wifi is easy to configure, looks elegant and creates a reliable mesh network in your home. This agreement is for the router only, but you can add a Nest Point to extend the coverage: This package costs $ 149 ($ 120 off) (also available at Target). Do you already have a router, but want to add the point? It is for sale for $ 95 ($ 55 off). Read our best mesh router guide for more recommendations.
This is a fairly common deal on this smart thermostat. We have not reviewed this exact version thoroughly, but we do have one guide on how to verify compatibility and set it up. If you like how Google runs its smart home, we think you’ll like this. The agreement is also available at Target and Best Buy. The newer one Nest Thermostat is also on sale for $ 100 ($ 30 off). It does not learn and adapt to your habits, but you can still set schedules.
Technically, this is a deal, but the Nest Hub Max (8/10, WIRED recommends) is reduced to this price often enough that you should never buy it at full price. This version has a camera if you want to use it for video chat. It is a helpful companion as it can act as a security camera feed (if the camera supports it), guide you through cooking instructions or just act as a digital photo frame.
The cameraless Nest Hub is also for sale. This one has a 7-inch screen as opposed to the Nest Hub Max’s 10-inch screen, making it more ideal for small spaces like bedrooms. This second generation model can also record your sleep habits if you want to make sure you reach seven hours (no wearable required). See our guide to the best smart screens for more details.
